How Strong our Your Convictions?

What is your strongest conviction? Under what circumstance would you ever compromise that conviction, if any?

Read Daniel 1

Who was Daniel? Where was he and how did he get there?

What did Daniel want to do and why did he desire that?

What was the result of Daniel's challenge?

How did God bless him because of him standing firm in his conviction?

Daniel was a man of conviction. In v. 8, it said that, "Daniel resloved that he would not defile himself with the king's food, or with the wine that he drank" (ESV). He didn't want to eat of this food probably for 1 or more of these reasons:

1. Because they ate unclean beasts, which were forbidden by the Jewish law.
2. Because they ate, as did the heathens in general, beasts which had been strangled, or not properly blooded.
3. Because the animals that were eaten were first offered as victims to their gods. (taken from "Adam Clarke's Commentary on the Old Testament")

Daniel had a strong conviction and followed through on it!

Application: What convictions do you stand by? More importantly, how strong are your godly convictions? Are they strong enough to withstand to strongest of temptations or trials. Daniel, in the midst of a new environment and change, could have gone along with the crowd and relaxed his convictions. However, he didn't and God blessed him because of it.

God will bless you when you stand up for faith and convictions. Use Daniel as an example of what can happen when we stand up for Christ and Christ in us.

Pray
